. and the new book, "all in: the education of david petraeus." paula was given unusual access to him and brought his story up today. as she writes early in the book, one of his most important mentors, general jack galvin, talk to him about the concept of the big "m", which stood for individual mystique or mythology. the troops need to be able to make their command bigger than they are. petraeus has sold -- stood out as a leader. on the battlefield, he is tried credited with turning things around in iraq following president bush's decision at the end of 2006 deserted u.s. forces there. he faced a similar challenge in afghanistan between the middle of 2010 in the middle of 2011. his time in afghanistan is the focus of policy book. although the book has a broader week. she incorporates lots of biographical information about him in an effort to examine what has made him so effective and influential as a leader. she has a phd in public policy, which involves a public study of petraeus regarding transformational leadership and organizational information. as a graduate of west point, paula

today for fredricka whitfield. we have new information on the david petraeus resignation. the highly dedicated army colonel quit after announcing he had an extramarital affair. it's an fbi affair that's sounding alarms. the fbi was investigating some suspicious e-mails and found some e-mails between paula broadwell and david petraeus. broadwell is the woman who wrote his biography. the fbi looks to see whether his communications had been compromised, and they said they had not been. now, petraeus was interviewed by the fbi, but it's not clear if broadwell has been questioned and if she will be. a u.s. official said petraeus was never a target of an investigation and that a tip about an affair led to that probe. now, general petraeus was scheduled to testify next week about the attack on the u.s. consulate in libya. now what happens now that he's gone? suzanne kelly is in washington with that part of this big story. >> susan, as washington reels from the announcement not only that david petraeus is stepping down from the post, but also from the admission he was having an extram

general david petraeus. president obama accepted his resignation as cia director yesterday. petraeus cited an extra marital affair as the reason for stepping down. joining me now is cnn intelligence correspondent suzanne kelly. suzanne, good morning. i know you've had a busy couple of days here. so, how is the intelligence community processing this? have they made any sense of it yet? >> i think it will take days for that, randi, for a couple of reasons. just a shot here in washington. if you had polled the top minds in washington a week ago and asked them about david petraeus, they would be more likely to talk about future career ambitions than what was going on outside his marriage. that was such a stunner yesterday. not only did david petraeus step down as head of the cia, but admitted to doing so in a letter that he wrote to employees at the cia and i think, you know, processing sort of the shock of that is one part of this, but the other part that we're going to really focus on in the coming week is finding out more of those details, particularly the timing of this. if there was
